Mommie...Again: Who sleeps in your bed at night?

Who sleeps in your bed at night?

Well, let's see there's me and my husband, our 2 dogs (Lhasa Apso & a Shiztu), and then there's little Mr. Brody!! Thank goodness we got hardwood floors or else our Lab would be up there too. He can't jump up on floors!

I know I've posted about this before and it's still happening. He still comes in our bed in the middle of the night, but now, my husband is getting tired of sleeping on the couch. We have a king bed, but that's not big enough...especially when Brody KICKS him all the time....that sends him to the couch every time, then when Tracy leaves he comes closer to me.

Is this a sign that perhaps I'm not doing something right? What is it. My true son NEVER came into my room - he could sleep through a storm.

I know a few of you said that it will one day stop, but that needs to be soon. Tracy and I are flipping coins to see who has to take him back to his room...and that will be a nightmare as he would be kicking and screaming the whole way back.

Anymore advice moms?

Signed,
Sleepless in """our own bed"""

  1. Following you back ! My 2 year old son gets in our bed in the middle of the night. When he goes to sleep we put him back in his bed. My husband loves to cosleep with the kids. I do not:)

  2. This is a hard one. I would say if you are against co sleeping then go sleep with him until he outgrows this. I would walk him back to his room everytime- be consistent and lay with him until he calms. Good luck!

  3. My FOUR yes, FOUR year old daughter still occasionally comes in during the night, If I am up for it, I will cuddle her all the way back to her bed and explain that the bed is not big enough for us, I feel awful for my husband, but I have woken to her legs up near my neck lol. She is just too big now! I was laughing the whole time reading your post. I think only time will change our predicaments :) Thankfully my three year old son does not move during the night :) If you find anything that works, I would love to know! Good luck!

  5. I have to say that my lil diva (who is now 9yrs old) tried this once or twice but I couldn't have her sleeping in bed with us either - She is a kicker, too! What I can suggest is getting a bed time routine set for Brody - read him a story (or anything that you prefer) and speak to him telling him why BIG boys sleep in their own beds....AND always follow through with taking him back to his bead every single time he tried to get into your bed! It may take a few tried but it will work - He will eventually get the hint. Oh, while you are walking him back to his bed - Don't give him conversation! Hope this works and Good Luck!

  7. My 20 month old has slept in his own bed since he was 8 weeks old. Thankfully, he prefers to sleep alone! He's still in a crib though, but I hope that continues even when we switch to a regular bed.

  8. We don't have that problem at our house. I was told to give them a drink of water and have them use the bathroom and send them right back to bed with out any discussion. I think the book 123 Magic suggests the same thing.

  9. My kids have slept in their own beds since they were infants, so we do not have that problem. I think you should curb this sooner than later, yes he may cry when you send him back to his own bed, but he will figure it out eventually.

Try explaining to him that he has his own special bed and that he gets to sleep in it all by himself, like a big boy. Make it exciting. Like a privilege. Let him pick out some cool bed sheets with his favorite character that he'll love to sleep in.

    Good luck!

  10. Our children love to sleep in our bed, they ask every night. They sleep in the living room on the couch so they can see us.

  11. I got me my hubby and my two kittens in our bed. Occasionally our baby likes to nap between us if we are just hanging out on the bed

  13. Wish I had the answer for you.... my 9 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son both still sneak in to our king size bed!!! lol I will say my daughter does go a few nights without coming in... think she is growing out of it. 14. My son is 6.5 months old, and he will sleep anywhere, though he prefers with Mommy and Daddy. I am trying to increase the times I put him to sleep in his crib rather than with us.

  17. Maybe you could temporarily compromise until he is a bit older and put his bed in your room? Or have a dog sleep in his room? My daughter likes it when I tell our dog to hop up and sleep at the foot of her bed. I used to have her crib next to my bed and when she turned 2, we went and got her a big kid bed and decorated her room all in owls, which is her favorite thing. She was excited to sleep there. Oh and one more thought... When I was little, I'd have a radio on softly in my room, and it would make me not afraid of the dark. Good luck. :) Now if only I had some advice for myself, my Pit Bull likes to sleep in my bed, ON MY CHEST!!
